Inspiration from David Mallouf (1962)
I Dreamt One Night
How can I say this to you in written words,
My neither friend or enemy.
Who to me were once so near to where I breathe
And I to you so close within your exciting touch.
Once between our lips,
You wrote a message using the ocean of your blood.
Biting down and stimulating my taste buds using you
I said to myself "hmm I wonder what's on your mind?"
As my master finger slowly took a stroll down your chest
Feeling roughly the salt-turned waters
That came from your deep pores.
Immortality covered our empty, dull bed.
I could never read those scribbles that marked your face
I thought to myself...
Should I bridge the silent gap with one-night cold casual phrases...?
Or let you use the master brush on us (me) once again
To stroke us (me) unstoppable another painting
Of the pale red sea-men.
One sea-man plashed restless in that corner,
One in that forsaken space invisible to the eye
And the rest drowned in an endless dark vortex.
That through time shall echo forever in your life.
While they'd scream at you (us) with disdain
Shout at you (us) as if plagued with the sickness
Might even spear us (you and me) in our sleep
For being brave and true and just for God's judgement.
Instead of bullets in our head, quick and unmemorable.
But yet you pledge to me your "love"...
That in the middle of it all; you'd never leave
My hands clamped headstrong in your hands
Still so close to your warm, spent tenders
And your kisses all over my hair.
I'd have believed all these declaration of devotion
If only this one night was not I dreamed...
